Mince Flanmince flan

Bored of ordinary mince for dinner? Then try out this recipe that puts a new twist on an old favourite by transforming your mince into a tasty flan.

Serves 4-6 
Preparation Time: 20 mins 
Cooking Time: 60 mins 


Ingredients:

  •  Pastry:
  •  375ml flour
  •  5ml lemon juice
  •  125g butter
  •  12.5ml water
  •  Filling:
  •  500g minced meat
  •  30g margarine
  •  1 onion, chopped
  •  1 sachet Knorr Mushroom Soup
  •  2ml Robertsons Origanum
  •  60ml tomato paste
  •  190ml water
  •  250ml sour cream
  •  2 eggs
  •  250ml grated cheese 


Instructions:

  1. Rub butter into flour until it resembles breadcrumbs
  2. Add lemon juice and water (adding more if necessary) to form soft dough
  3. Roll out to fit a deep 23cm flan tin
  4. Cover pastry with baking paper and fill with raw beans
  5. Bake at 220℃C for 10 minutes
  6. Remove paper and bake for an extra 5 minutes
  7. For the filling: Melt margarine in a pan and sauté the onion until tender
  8. Add the mince and stir until browned
  9. Add Knorr Mushroom Soup Powder and Robertsons Origanum and mix well, then stir in tomato paste and water
  10. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes or until thickened
  11. Spread mince in pastry shell and top with sour cream and eggs beaten together
  12. Top with grated cheese
  13. Bake at 180℃ for 35 minutes until set and golden brown
  14. Serve with a crispy fresh salad
  15. NOTE: this recipe can be made without the pastry shell
